Dr. David Rogers

Dr. David Rogers earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Rosemead Graduate School of Professional Psychology in LaMirada, California. He completed his residency and internship at the Philhaven Hospital in Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania. Since 1996, he has served as the clinical director of Hershey Psychological Services.

In addition, he has acted as a psychological consultant/trainer for the Pennsylvania State Police's Member Assistance Program since 2007. In 2011 he was certified as a Critical Incident Stress Manager as part of his role with this important program.

Dr. Rogers has also worked in education, serving as adjunct professor for Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Penn State University, and Lebanon Valley College. As part of his commitment to educating future clinicians, he has acted both as a group-level supervisor and an individual mentor to those seeking certification, licensure, or other credentialing opportunities.

Dr. Rogers serves on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, currently as its past president and the head of the Interpersonal Violence Committee.

In June 2013, he was chosen as the president of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Psychological Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Fort Hunter and the South Central Camp Cadet.

In his spare time, Dr. Rogers enjoys a good game of backgammon with his wife, Nancy, a fellow psychologist in Hershey, Pennsylvania, reading, and collecting antique clocks.

E.K. RYNEARSON M.D.

Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Washington, Fellow American Psychiatric Association, and Fellow American College of Psychiatry

“Ted” Rynearson is a clinical psychiatrist and researcher from Seattle Washington where he founded the section of psychiatry at the Mason Clinic. In addition to full-time clinical practice, he has served on the clinical faculty of the University of Washington as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry.

For over 40 years, Dr. Rynearson has maintained a particular clinical and research focus on the effects of violent death on family members published in clinical papers, book chapters, and two books entitled, Retelling Violent Death and Violent Death: Resilience and Intervention Beyond the Crisis.

He has given numerous national and international training on the management of the clinical effects of violent death and with grant support has founded a non-profit organization (the Violent Death Bereavement Society) with its own Internet site (vdbs.org) establishing an informative network for service providers, teachers and researchers of traumatic grief after violent death. His international work included a collaborative training program for Israeli and Palestinian clinicians in supporting members of their communities with traumatic grief associated with violent death.

Dr. Rynearson lives on Puget Sound and when younger rowed each dawn in his rowing scull (weather and tide permitting) and almost always saw a seal or an eagle.

Alison Salloum, PhD

Alison Salloum, Ph.D., LCSW is a Professor at the University of South Florida, School of Social Work. She received her MSW and Ph.D. from Tulane University School of Social Work. Dr. Salloum has extensive clinical experience providing treatment for children and families who have experienced traumatic events. Dr. Salloum’s research focuses on the implementation of trauma-related evidence-based treatments; service delivery methods to address treatment barriers for children and their families; childhood trauma, loss, and anxiety; and ways to support helping professionals so that they may serve others effectively.   She is the author of Grief and Trauma in Children: A Evidence-Based Treatment Manual (Routledge, 2015), Group Work with Adolescents After Violent Death: A Manual for Practitioners (Brunner-Routledge, 2004) and Reactions: A Workbook for Children Experiencing Grief and Trauma (Centering Corporation, 1998). Dr. Salloum has presented workshops nationally and internationally to help clinicians working with children who suffer from grief and trauma, and is the author of numerous publications regarding trauma-informed care and childhood trauma.

Laura A. Takacs, LICSW, MPH | Virginia Mason

Laura Takacs is a 2004 graduate of the University of Washington School of Social Work and School of Public Health. Since graduating, Laura has worked both internationally and domestically, with those impacted by war.  Currently, Laura serves as the Clinical Director at Virginia Mason Medical Center, Grief Services, where she provides both individual and group therapy to the bereaved after a sudden, traumatic death, utilizing the Restorative Retelling model.

Prior to her role at Grief Services, Laura worked in the Middle East where she utilized Restorative Retelling while working with Syrian and Iraqi refugees. Laura has presented the Restorative Retelling model in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East.

Laura holds her LICSW and MPH and has completed a post‐graduate Certificate in Psychological Trauma from the University of Washington.

Dr. David Zehrung

Dr. David Zehrung earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from George Mason University. Since 1998, he has served populations in both Maryland and Pennsylvania as a licensed psychologist.


In addition to a general clinical psychology practice, Dr. Zehrung developed particular experience related to PTSD, veterans, neuropsychology, forensic psychology, developmental disabilities, psychological IMEs, and disability evaluations. He enjoys providing clinical supervision to early-career behavioral health care providers and has served as clinical director of two behavioral health departments. He has had a long interest in violence prevention. 

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Zehrung actively participates in volunteer leadership in the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, including serving as a past president.

Kelly Berthold, LCSW

Kelly is a licensed clinical social worker and received her master’s degree in social work from University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work. She is owner of MindCast LLC and creator of the podcast series Know Your FundaMENTALs, a grassroots media company that focus is to proliferate foundational mental health and wellness concepts nationally and internationally through media and in-person outreach initiatives. She also works as a clinical mental health therapist at a local private practice, Centre Counseling and Wellness, LLC and the Penn State Psychological Clinic, where she is a senior staff member, clinical supervisor, group facilitator and individual therapy provider. Kelly has had training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and other trauma-informed behavioral approaches. She is passionate about education, outreach, and prevention and appreciates working alongside others from VTVCare to support their mission and mental health support and outreach initiatives.

Gary Updegrove, MD

Gary Updegrove, MD, is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery and orthopaedic trauma. A State College native, Dr. Updegrove earned his Bachelor of Science degree at The Pennsylvania State University. He then graduated from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., and completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Updegrove pursued two additional years of subspecialty training - a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Carolinas Medical Center, followed by a second subspecialty fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at The Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Updegrove's clinical practice focuses on reconstruction of degenerative conditions or traumatic injuries of the shoulder and elbow. He specializes in upper extremity surgery, including anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, elbow replacements, complex fracture management, repair of fracture nonunions, rotator cuff repair, as well as shoulder and elbow arthroscopy.

Brad Updegrove

Brad Updegrove is the Director of Global Site Contracting Operations for Johnson & Johnson. In this capacity Brad leads a team that  supports operational aspects associated with contracting activities  between Johnson & Johnson entities and clinical research sites. Previously, Brad held roles of increasing responsibility within Johnson and Johnson's Procurement organization.

Brad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Logistics and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Pennsylvania State University. He currently resides in Hopewell, NJ with his wife and son.
