Virginia Beach Mass Shooting Support for SB-30

February 2022

At its February 15, 2022, meeting, the Commission on the May 31, 2019, Virginia Beach Mass Shooting voted unanimously to support and recommend that the General Assembly adopt SB-30 that would create a $10 million Mass Violence Care Fund that could cover some medical expenses for victims of the mass shooting.

The Commission noted the similarities between SB-30 and the VTVCare program that was created following the 2007 Virginia Tech tragedy. Establishing a fund to help relieve the financial burden of victims of mass shooting violence is a necessary and admirable way for the Commonwealth to help the victims of the May 31, 2019, tragedy in Virginia Beach and other mass shootings.
